Anderson, Woodford & Franklin Counties, KY: pair allegedly shoot and dismantle cameras across three counties
Lawrenceburg police say Jim Thacker, 44, and Jovanna Grobe, 18, destroyed or removed "nearly all" of Anderson County's Flock cameras plus more in neighboring Woodford and Franklin counties โ€” Lawrenceburg's own network alone lost 4 cameras, cut from their bases or shot up with a shotgun (each unit costs $3,000 to replace, police said). The case broke after a tip that a woman fired a shotgun at a Woodford County camera on KY 33; officers traced the vehicle to Pumphouse Road in Lawrenceburg and, with the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, arrested the pair with two shotguns and ammunition still in the car. Thacker is charged with first-degree criminal mischief and conspiracy; Grobe faces criminal mischief, complicity, and discharging a firearm across a public road. Investigators say more charges are possible as the multi-county total is still being tallied.

Noble County, IN: vandals cut down 6 camera poles, sheriff pulls the whole system
Noble County Sheriff Max Weber said vandals had repeatedly cut down poles across the department's 90-day Flock trial โ€” six in all โ€” and asked Flock to remove the cameras "for the time being," citing the cost of replacing and insuring them on top of the repeated vandalism. Weber said he still considers the system "an excellent tool in assisting with criminal and traffic investigations," but that repairs, which can take weeks per pole, weren't worth the taxpayer expense; the county had no long-term contract in place. No suspects identified.

Cedar Rapids, IA: drunk driver snaps a Flock camera pole
Cedar Rapids police say a drunk driver crashed into a Flock camera at Wilson Avenue SW and 6th Street, snapping the pole and leaving tire tracks and a knocked-down bike lane sign at the scene. Sterling police say he destroyed 9 more overnight in Clark County on Sep 20 โ€” 17 cameras in all. Investigators used Flock's own ALPR data to match a truck seen on surveillance footage and located it at his home, along with clothing, a backpack, an impact wrench, and a pipe cutter matching the video. When told he'd been identified using Flock cameras, West reportedly said "well, they did their job." Charged with eight counts of first-degree criminal mischief and six counts of obstructing governmental operations in Montgomery County, plus an additional criminal mischief count in Clark County.

Location undisclosed: hacker collective dismantles a Flock camera, exposes its internal data
A hacker collective calling itself stegan0gram says it pulled a Flock Safety camera out of the field, dismantled it, and extracted a near-complete copy of its stored data โ€” including an unencrypted "media" partition holding the on-device encryption key Flock said protected footage โ€” before sharing its findings with 404 Media, Distributed Denial of Secrets, and Wired. The group says the single camera captured 50,200 vehicles and generated 1.6 million photos in just 21 days, and that it could pick out details as small as an American-flag patch on a motorcycle saddlebag. Flock called the "unauthorized removal and tampering" illegal; the collective declined to disclose the camera's location, citing retaliation concerns.

A bystander flagged down officers near Wellborn Road and Greens Prairie Road on Aug 28 after spotting two Flock cameras with their power cables cut and American flags draped over them to block their view, alongside two handmade anti-Flock signs staked into the ground. Detectives traced barcodes and price tags left on the signs and stakes back to a local Lowe's and Office Depot, and Flock's own camera data helped place a suspect's vehicle at the scene; a 19-year-old was arrested Sep 15 and charged with a state-jail felony count of criminal mischief ($750-$2,500 in damage), released on $5,000 bond.

Hubbard, OH: thieves steal 4 of the city's 6 Flock cameras, city pulls the rest and walks away
An unknown thief stole four of Hubbard's six leased Flock cameras over several weeks; with an investigation still open, Police Chief Robert Thompson opted to pull the remaining two rather than risk further losses. The city had already been leaning toward not renewing its contract when it expires in November 2028 and had asked Flock about early termination back in June, which would have cost $35,000 in remaining fees โ€” the thefts made the decision easy. "The need for them wasn't as great as I thought it would be in our community," Thompson said.

The Heart of Texas Auto Theft Task Force removed all fixed Flock license plate readers it operated in Burnet County after vandals disabled two of them in separate incidents โ€” one struck with a blunt object with its battery smashed and cables cut, the other had its mounting brackets and power cables cut.
